Club History
Sunderland have won the First Division six times, their last in 1936. The Stadium of Light, opened in 1997 on the site of the Wearmouth Colliery, is a 49,000-capacity ground that often feels too large for Championship football. The Netflix documentary "Sunderland 'Til I Die" documented their fall through the divisions.
